This Secret May Change How You View Public Speaking

Hi!
Last week, I had a delightful conversation with a client who is gearing up for her first major keynote address. I loved feeling her surge of excitement and nervous anticipation as she prepared to step into the spotlight. Something she said really caught my attention and brought a smile to my face. She said, “I want to create an opener like you did when you started with your back to the audience.” Now, I won’t go into the wild story behind why I chose that particular approach and how it perfectly aligned with my message. But here’s why it made the little girl inside of me blush… the keynote she was referring to took place over seven years ago.
Seven years… it was a time before the pandemic and the worldwide toilet paper shortage. It was before I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey and before our current and previous presidents took office!
Let me tell you, my friends, as a speaker, this is what you strive for. Your audience may not remember every word you said, but you hope you’ve done the hard work for them to remember the experience you created.
Keynotes are magical moments where memories are crafted. They transcend the format of a TED Talk-style lecture and become immersive experiences. It is both a privilege and a responsibility for us as speakers to curate these unforgettable moments for our audiences.
But I have a secret to share with you. I approach every speaking session as if it were a keynote address. I invest the same level of care, attention, and dedication to the rehearsal process, just as I would for a grand keynote. Why do I do this? It’s because I believe that every audience deserves something extraordinary. Their time is invaluable, and once it’s spent, it cannot be retrieved. So when they choose to invest their time with me, I am committed to giving them nothing less than my absolute best.
We are now diving deep into the process of crafting a truly distinctive opening for her keynote. Our goal is to create an unforgettable experience that will resonate so profoundly with her audience that even seven years from now, someone will reach out and say, “I still remember your incredible keynote where you…”
When the time comes for you to develop your signature presentation, transitioning to owning and delivering your unique message, we are here to guide you on the path toward that transformative moment.
