When teamwork doesn’t make the dream work…

Hello!!!!!

The wonderful phrase, “teamwork makes the dream work” was first coined by clergyman John C. Maxwell in 2002. Maxwell’s words still reign true today. But just as important as teamwork, is picking the right teammate! One of the most essential traits in a teammate is someone who honors your vision and aspirations. I realized this when I was in pursuit of a serene sanctuary.

Take a quick journey with me back in time to a few summers ago…

Collaborating with a contractor to envision the perfect design for my backyard, I eagerly shared inspiring samples on my Pinterest board of serene tropical paradise that would make me feel like I stumbled into a hidden oasis. When asked about any specific desires for our side yard, I enthusiastically expressed my longing for a small dipping pool – a personal sanctuary where I could unwind and relish in a good day’s work. The contractor asked about my gardening inclinations, and I told him I didn’t want to work on top of my day job. This meant no plants with heavy maintenance. My sole aspiration was to create a space dedicated to relaxation and tranquility.

A few weeks later, the big day arrived, and he unveiled the plan!!!

A Vegas-style pool, taking up the main backyard, with a huge lit-up waterfall, a hot tub with a waterfall edge, disco changing lights, and a side yard full of oversized planter boxes for me to grow and maintain a vegetable garden. He said it was his favorite design he’d ever done and wanted it for his own backyard.

But there was one problem… it was everything HE wanted in my backyard.

He and I went back and forth a few times, trying to get closer to the design elements I originally requested, but he couldn’t let go of his vision of what he wanted.

By the way, here was one of the images I shared:

Notice no light-up waterfalls or planter boxes…

Here’s the thing: As someone who collaborates with a lot of visionary leaders on their thought leadership message, it is not my job to make them into my vision of a thought leader. It’s not my role to impose on them topics I think should be out in the world. My job is to ask all the right questions to uncover the topics they are experts in. To peel back the layers and explore what lights THEM up. To dig deeper and connect with what they feel they have to share with the world in order to create the impact they want to be known for.

Then, it’s about giving them the framework and guidance to create a moment on stage that brings the audience into their message and inspires them into action. We take the importance of honoring the vision and aspirations of our clients very seriously and being the key teammate in making that dream a reality!

So whether you want tranquil delivery, vegas flash, or to plant seeds and nurture growth, I got you. It’s your vision. I’m your trusty guide to uncover it and bring it to life.

With Love,

P.S. I still am looking for my tranquil backyard if you know anyone
